What is It Takes 6?
This is a communications tool developed by Every Child with the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY). Aiming to 'cut-through' to the public, decision-makers and our sector partners, to show that children and young people have needs across six primary areas. This includes housing, learning and health, as well as a need to participate, to be heard; and to be connected to community and culture.
What is the cost of ignoring the 6?
COVID-19 has compounded the divide in Australia - the divide is growing between those who can access the supports they need and those who cannot. Too many children and young people are missing out on the 6 basic elements to be confident, safe and developing well. Support is often not available early when they need it most, and it is often fragmented across different agencies and locations. Children get the best start when support across all areas of need is "stacked" (Molloy et al, 2018) in the early years of their lives.
